Michelle’s current sculptural practice explores the nature of growth and fecundity, taking inspiration from the trees, mosses, fungi and fauna that surround her studio. Fascinated by pattern, shape and form, Michelle’s work describes the experience of being alive, of growth and potential contained within buds, nodes, pods, swellings and tendrils.
Using macro photography initially to record a digital vocabulary, Michelle creates complex sculptures in clay: attaching, grouping and creating new forms, recognisable in parts but startling in new juxtapositions. Michelle exhibits sculpture and domestic ware in galleries and craft fairs around the UK.
Scottish Landscapes is Michelle's current range of studio pottery and is available to buy online in Michelle's Etsy shop.
Michelle also offers a wide range of classes, demonstrations and one-off workshops covering all aspects of working in clay.
