A selection of work from 2007-09

All pieces are handbuilt using ES20 Earthstone Smooth Texture Clay fired to 1110 degrees C. The surfaces are achieved by spraying with layers of stained slips, glazes and oxides to build a depth of colour. Surfaces range from craggy dry to buttery smooth.
I am strongly drawn to swelling turgid forms in nature and study them closely using macro photography. Once I feel that I understand the form, I then begin to play with the shapes, sketching possible mutations of an idea. I am often trying to convey the feeling of growing, swelling, moving.
