Naked Raku
Naked raku is a method of smoke firing using a layer of slip and glaze as a resist. Ware is removed from the kiln as the glaze just begins to glisten, plunged into wood shavings and left to smoke. Still hot, the piece is then immersed in water where the resist layers are sintered off leaving bare smoke crackled clay. The pot is then waxed and burnished.
